Design Division

Welcome to Design Division

The Design Division at Mechanical Engineering Department offers a cross cutting environment for  practicing and exploring several facets of design. First time in India and perhaps one of the few among the world, programs amalgamating industrial and engineering design were successfully developed at IIITDM Kancheepuram. Product companies are always looking for talent who can apply their creative problem solving skills to product development in both conceptual and embodiment design stages.  This division envisions to creatively engage in the space between technologies and people. This involves facilitating innovation in the conceptual stage by creating a conducive learning environment for the students in System Thinking, Intelligent Design, Professional Ethics/ Sustainability, Product Systems and Services, Sociology in Design,  and Usability Engineering. In the detailed design stages,  the focus has always been the iterative decision making process which creates the detailed specification and development of sub-systems and their individual elements of the devices so as to perform the desired functions of the product.

The industrial design engineering courses are offered to all branch of engineering students to inculcate the design thinking capabilities to every engineer passing out of IIITDM Kancheepuram. This helps the students to appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of today’s complex product systems and prepares them better to work with  people from all branches of engineering by promoting the team work.
