Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIITDM Kancheepuram. We started our journey in 2007 in the name of the mechanical stream. Over the past decade, we have grown our expertise and competence in the IT-enabled Design and Manufacturing-centered Mechanical Engineering curriculum and research.
We have a strong undergraduate program in mechanical engineering, including a B. Tech. – M. Tech. dual degree program. At the postgraduate level, we offer M. Tech., M. Tech by Research, and PhD degrees. The sanctioned student strengths for B. Tech., Dual Degree, and M. Tech. are, respectively, 120, 40, and 30 per year. At present, the department has 26 PhD scholars. We have many sponsored candidates from research laboratories and industries pursuing doctoral studies in our department.
Our department offers an IT-enabled, design-and-manufacturing-based engineering curriculum. The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart technical know-how to students and promote their problem-solving skills and innovation in new technologies. The department offers a wide range of interdisciplinary courses to provide students with cross-cutting knowledge to pursue their interests. The course contents are periodically updated to introduce new scientific and technological developments. Undergraduate students are encouraged to undertake various research projects and to spend time in the neighboring industries.
Our department maintains active research groups to conduct collaborative, interdisciplinary research. We have state-of-the-art research facilities to support our academic programs and research. Excellent funding for research helps us to maintain high standards in our research infrastructure.
Our department has a distinguished record in both teaching and research. Faculty members have excellent academic credentials and are highly regarded.
This website provides an overview of our department’s academic programs, research activities, research facilities, faculty profiles, and student activities. We hope that you are a prospective undergraduate or graduate student, work in industry, attend another university, or are a visitor, and you will find this website informative.
